Triton College's Cernan Earth and Space Center will conduct the next Monthly Skywatch at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 15.
Astronomers are on hand to answer questions -- and the telescopes are set-up for public viewing.
This attraction features an indoor planetary program, which introduces audiences to a variety of Earth and space subjects, and, weather permitting, concludes on the front lawn for telescope viewing of moon, stars and planets.
The indoor portion introduces audiences to a variety of earth and space related subjects. These include a tour of the current nighttime sky, a presentation of the latest astronomical discoveries and highlights and plans for NASA space flights, and a segment focusing on a celestial object that is well-placed for viewing.
The outdoor portion will include telescope viewing of the planets Mars and Saturn, as well as the waxing gibbous moon and possibly an assortment of double stars and star clusters. Members of the Chicago Astronomical Society and Cernan Center staff members will assist with telescope viewing and offer insights.
The cost of the Skywatch is $8 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under and senior citizens. Due to the scientific information presented, the show is recommended primarily for persons 13 years and older. Parking is free.
