I am a high school biology teacher who would like to have extra motivation to read science-related books and discuss them outside of school. These wouldn't be textbooks, they would be more "popular science" that are educational and entertaining as well! Authors will include Richard Dawkins, Natalie Angier, E.O. Wilson, Carl Sagan, and Rachel Carson among others. There are many of these that have been on my "to-do" list for a long time. Of course other science teachers would be great for this gro …

I have recently graduated college with an engineering degree and found myself with...free time? It's a startling concept, but within this free time, I've started reading classics, philosophy and science books that I've been dying to discuss, but alas cannot find participants. That, my friend, is why this meetup exists! Hope there are others that enjoy reading a wide variety and range of topics that explore our physical, metaphysical and perhaps even pseudo-physical philosophies and theories. I'v …
We get together to discuss various topics in science and skepticism. Anything from recent science news to rants about the latest paranormal or pseudoscience scams. We are also considering some field trips to local museums and events. Everyone is welcome.
As you can see on the right of this text, this group doesn't have a group photo. Yes, I agree, we need to change that. So, if you have a suggestion, upload one or more pictures here:

… We welcome a diverse group of anthropologists and anthropology enthusiasts, whatever mix of academic/theoretical and applied/practicing approaches they favor, and in any of the subfields: cultural, biological, archeaological, linguistic, and medical/ science and technology studies. Members of the public are welcome to attend at any time--we are unintimidating and reasonably jargon-free, but we do care deeply about our favorite subject and subjects!
The Great Books Reading Group is not a literature club. It is a discussion group that uses a multidisciplinary approach to learning and exploring the past and present. We are reading from the St. John's College Reading List. As we read foundational texts in the Western tradition, we examine mysticism, history, theology, the earth and physical sciences, mathematics, philosophy and government, as well as art, literature and music.
Meetup details are available only to members.
We are a group of writers who enjoy imaginative, perhaps even offbeat, fiction. Our goal is to write well--or at least better--but with the freedom to make mistakes. We are not here to necessarily produce polished, publishable fiction, but to rather to carve out a space where writers can experiment and have fun in a relaxed and supportive environment. Speculative fiction--which includes science fiction, horror, steampunk, dystopian fiction, and fantasy genres--allows writers of fiction an oppor …
CFI–DC Drinking Skeptically is an informal social event designed to promote fellowship and networking among skeptics, critical-thinkers, and like-minded individuals. CFI–DC Drinking Skeptically provides an opportunity for skeptics to talk, share ideas (and yes, drink) in a casual, relaxed atmosphere. We discuss the issues of the day and whatever else is on our minds. But most of all, we have fun while promoting skepticism, science, and rationality. Don't drink? Don't let that stop you from joini …
